A few days ago I received a call from a family friend named Ken.
Ken and my dad are in a business group together that meets up every few weeks. Recently, the topic of Medicare came up.
Ken shared how he was working with an agent he’s been with for over 20 years to get his Medicare in place. His trusted agent signed him up for a plan, and Ken thought he was all taken care of. Much to his surprise, he was not.
Afterward, my dad told Ken, “Medicare is more complicated than what you think. Give Emily a call, and she can walk you through it.”
My dad’s situation was very similar and equally as complicated as Ken’s, so my dad knew the process we took to make his decision would be just as detailed as Ken’s.
Shortly after Ken spoke with my dad, he called me to fill me in on his situation.
I asked a few questions, walked him through Medicare and provided some guidance. With my independent Medicare expertise, I was able to show Ken what he could do to save a significant amount of money and also get the best coverage.
Luckily Ken had officially joined Medicare four days before we spoke so we were able to make some changes that most people aren’t able to do.
Through our process, Ken discovered that his agent of over 20 years never told him all of his Medicare options. Just like many others, Ken thought he was doing the right thing by going to an agent.
Ken recalled how he was annoyed and frustrated with the phone ringing off the hook with Medicare callers, and he thought his local agent could help him make the right decision.
Afterward, Ken said, “my insurance agent of 20 years dropped the ball and cost me thousands of dollars and I no idea it was happening. The Medicare Coach was able to get it all back but $428 since they are the independent Medicare experts. Emily pointed out many things my agent overlooked or didn’t want me to know because it would hurt his commission.”
He continued, “I feel so stupid for not realizing that my agent wasn’t able to deal with Medicare even though he said he was. And I didn’t know the questions to ask, so there was no way for me to know if he was giving me the right information.”
He finished, “I don’t know why I didn’t come to the Medicare Coach from the beginning. Now I tell all of my friends to write the check to Emily so that she and the Medicare Coach team will take care of it.”
