Medicare beneficiaries can make costly mistakes by not reviewing their complete plan every year. A client did not renew her membership in our Coach program after first joining in 2007 when she turned 65. In 2011,we sent a letter warning her of significant premium increases on the horizon in her existing Medicare supplement plan unless she made a change.
We didn’t hear back from her until today.
Her $88 per month 2007 supplement insurance premium has increased to $303. She knows she got some bad advice and wanted our help.
We reviewed her Part D prescription plan and recommended a change that will save her $250.
Then we showed her a way to save an additional $2,112 if she replaced her existing supplement plan from a $303 per month premium to $127 with exactly the same benefits except she would have to pay the $183 Medicare Part B deductible.
The changes are pending and she is now waiting for a savings of $2,362.
Remember free advice can be costly.
But, I am confident since she is still insurable she’ll get a new supplement plan and have a big smile on her face when Santa arrives at Christmas.
