When you turn 64, you begin to get inundated with Medicare advertisements on TV, the radio, in the mail, and even at your local grocery store.
These Medicare advertisements are EVERYWHERE.
They make promises of low premiums, free perks, and even free groceries.
Is it too good to be true? Is it a scam?
Truthfully, I wouldn’t call these advertisements a scam.
However, I will say that these advertisements aim to get you to buy their Medicare plan. The insurance company’s goal is to get you to sign up so they don’t share the whole story.
They want to sell you a plan that makes them the most money. These are typically Medicare Advantage plans.
That is why you’ll see the free perks front and center:
- Free premiums
- Gym memberships
- Vision & Dental included
- Free groceries
These perks come with a price, so please be wary of them. For example, the Advantage plan may be “free,” but you must still pay Medicare Part B monthly fees, co-pays, and deductibles.
I never recommend choosing a plan based on perks. They may sound good on paper, but these plans become costly when you need them the most.
This is one of the main reasons why people have Medicare regret.
So again, the commercials aren’t necessarily a scam, but they leave out a lot of the information you need to make the right decision for your unique situation.
It’s important to remember that the plan you pick first is likely the plan you’ll have for the rest of your life, so be sure to get the full story first.
I don’t want you to make a costly mistake.
The question is, who can you talk to about Medicare to get your Medicare questions answered?
