After I graduated from college, I chased my career for ten years from New York City to Australia and then to Hong Kong. I felt like my parents accepted that I was married to my career and would likely never settle down.
Eventually, I got sick of bouncing around, so I quit my job and moved to Colorado for a life where I saw the sun. Shortly after I moved, I met a man who would eventually become my husband.
When I finally got married, everyone was ecstatic, especially my husband and me.
We had a fantastic wedding surrounded by so many of our friends and family, and we couldn’t wait to relive our special day through our wedding video.
Unfortunately, our wedding video took much longer than we hoped for. Every day I waited for a phone call or an email from our videographer with an update. But almost every day, I was always disappointed with no news.
I remember lying in bed one December morning on my phone, scrolling through various emails when I finally came across the email I had been waiting for.
It was our wedding video!
As I laid in bed watching, I was moved to tears. It had perfectly captured our ceremony, our reception, and all the special moments between my husband and me.
It was complete perfection and the best gift to relive our special day.
As soon as I finished watching it, I sent my family the video and within minutes text messages started going back and forth about how incredible it was.
Then I get a call from my mom.
I was expecting her to be in tears about how beautiful the video was and how well it captured the day, but that’s not what I heard.
Instead, as soon as I pick up the phone, she said, “Is there any sound on the video? I’ve tried to watch it on my computer a couple of times, and I’m not able to hear anything.”
We spent some time on the phone trying to get her computer sound to work, but we weren’t able to fix it. For weeks, my mom tried to figure out how to get the sound to work, but she didn’t have any luck.
About two weeks later, I was headed home for Christmas, and I knew the first thing I needed to fix at home was the sound on her computer so she could finally watch the video and experience it like the rest of us.
Within a minute of looking at her computer and playing with a few cords, it was fixed.
While my mom was thrilled the sound worked, she was frustrated that she spent hours trying to fix it with no solution when it took me less than a minute.
Little problems like this happen so frequently.
There are many things in life that I struggle with, but others can do in a fraction of the time. My husband laughs at how long it takes for me to chop vegetables because it takes him a fraction of the time.
