Is Free REALLY worth it?

Three years ago, I went to Mexico for a vacation with a group of my friends. While we were there, the hotel asked us if we wanted to join a short presentation about vacation rentals and in return, they would give us a free fishing trip.

This offer sounded great…right? I thought so too, which is why I was happy to trade an hour of my time sitting in a presentation for a free fishing trip!

So, my friends and I went to the presentation. We took the tour of the property as they asked and at the end of the session, we received our free fishing trip passes for the next day.

We woke up in the morning excited for the trip, and when we arrived up to the boat, we found another 20 people despite being told it would be a tiny group.  Regardless, we were optimistic that we would catch some fish.

Shortly after the boat department, the rest of the trip quickly went downhill.

What we thought was a few hour fishing trip with a small group of people, turned out to be a 1-hour boat ride with only 30-minutes to fish. When we were trying to fish, we had to compete with 20 other people, so this turned out to be a real disappointment.

This fishing trip was definitely not worth getting it for free.  This presentation and horrible fishing trip interrupted two of our vacation days, and I wish we would have paid for a real fishing trip from the beginning.

This experience reminds me of Medicare. People often say, “I can get free advice and help to make my Medicare decision from an insurance agent or another free source. Why should I pay for the Medicare Coach to help me?”

When someone says this, I always think back to my “free” fishing trip.

Just because something is free, doesn’t mean it’s always better.

As Warren Buffet said, “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”

So, as you think about your Medicare decision, ask yourself, what is free worth to you? Is it worth getting free advice on Medicare if it could jeopardize your health care and savings?

It’s imperative to remember that people who are providing “free” advice are getting paid from somewhere. Most of them are getting paid by insurance companies. They’re paid by insurance companies to sell you products that the insurance companies want you to buy. What these agents are selling are not always what’s best for you.

At the Medicare Coach, we charge a very reasonable fee to provide you independent, unbiased advice to help you make the right Medicare decision for you.

We’ve been helping people like you with their Medicare decision since 2010 because our clients know the value, we give our clients is much higher than the price they pay.
