Most of the people I come across during my free Medicare workshop are sick of hearing about Medicare. They’re sick of trying to figure out what is best for them and want straightforward answers.
I hear how Medicare is a nightmare, and they’re over all the insurance mailers and endless phone calls.
I want you to know that I hear you, and I understand.
I will share a shortcut to Medicare with you in this email, and I think it’s the easiest way to make your Medicare decision.
Now, there are five easy steps for anyone to follow to make your Medicare decision.
Step 1: Know When to Join Medicare
Medicare rules state that you must have “creditable” health insurance coverage when you turn 65, or you will face penalties. That means you either are on Medicare or on coverage that meets Medicare rules.
Go through your current coverage and see if it’s creditable. If not, join Medicare. If you don’t have any coverage when you turn 65, you’ll want to join Medicare.
Step 2: Know Which Medicare Program to Pick.
There are two Medicare Programs: Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage.
Many factors go into choosing the best program for you, but the critical factor will be what your doctors accept and the flexibility you want to have with your Medicare coverage.
Step 3: Choose Your Medicare Company
If you go the Medicare Advantage path, you need to choose what company you want to enroll with.
If you chose Original Medicare, you would need to also enroll in a Medigap plan to cover the percentage that Medicare alone does not.
Step 4: Choose Your Medicare Part D Plan
Another Medicare rule states that you MUST have “creditable” prescription drug coverage when you turn 65, or you will face penalties.
You will either have this creditable coverage through an employer plan, or you will enroll in a Medicare Part D plan. If you went with Medicare Advantage, typically those plans include Medicare Part D coverage.
Step 5: Make Medicare Official
This is the last step to your Medicare decision. This is where you enroll in Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B and your other chosen Medicare plans like Medigap and Part D or Medicare Advantage. Once enrolled, your coverage will begin the first day of your birthday month.
This 5-step path has been proven to work for the thousands of people we’ve helped with their Medicare decision.
I know that Medicare can be confusing, especially with all the insurance calls and mailers. I know it can be frustrating waiting for the government to hopefully help you.
The good news is these five steps anyone can follow to make their Medicare decision.
It’s my mission to make Medicare easier for everyone, and I want you to make the right decision for your health care rights and retirement savings.
